Advent: Week 3

“Mild, He lays His glory by; born that man no more may die.”

Imagine years and years of waiting for the Messiah - the Rescuer, the Healer, the Redeemer.

You would think that a king would arrive to such a needy and longing people wearing robes of gold; a declaration of his presence sent out before Him and loyal subjects following him.

There would be fanfares and parades and pageantry.

But God had a plan far greater than any earthly pomp and circumstance. This was no ordinary king.

This was Yeshua.

Salvation.

King Jesus.

The Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Entering the world in the form of a helpless babe, seemingly powerless and truly innocent.

God’s plan for redemption could have involved brilliant lights or dazzling flames,

but instead, He sent salvation to us in mild humility.

God is gentle.

We forget that sometimes.

Our Saviour is powerful, He is strong, He is mighty.

But He is also meek and mild.

He is just.

He is pure.

He is righteous.

Often, we tend to forget that we are on this side of the manger, the cross, and the grave. We dwell on our guilt, shame, and sin.

Jesus was born so that His death on the cross would grant us life with Him; born to make the broken soul whole. He came into this world not to condemn but to seek out and save the lost.

A perfect lamb, the ultimate sacrifice.

His birth, life, death, and resurrection were all part of Redemption’s plan to make all things new. Eternal life is found in Him.

The curse of sin has been shattered.

Death has been defeated.

The resurrecting King will bring life to the lifeless, rest to the restless, and hope to the hopeless.
